Pure contempt

A court-martial has been ordered for the purpose of imprisoning Bradley Manning for the rest of his life.

This comes just a week after a marine sergeant was awarded a maximum three-month sentence for leading one of many massacres of civilians in Iraq; his co-accused were exonerated.

The US constantly displays utter contempt for human decency and justice, glorying in the subservience and stupidity of its apologists (a few of whom may shortly be contributing to this page).

It knows full well that whatever atrocity or stupidity it proclaims, a billionaire press at home and abroad will support it and deliver a large part of a naïve electorate into the pro-war lobby the moment it implements its next holocaust for oil and influence.

R Westmoreland, The Oval, Pocklington.

The soldier in the pay of his country gave away restricted information.... he should be punished for that.... It's not up to him to decide what should and shouldn't be in the public domain.
What if the information caused death or injury to his colleagues?

"The soldier in the pay of his country" should sometimes consult his conscience and expose the evils of this war, but perhaps the intention of the letter was to contrast the way that someone exposing the tragedy and stupidity of this war is treated, in comparison with someone who commits the very atrocities that are part and parcel of it.

The man signed on the dotted line and took an oath of allegiance.
He is a traitor.
