Democratic delusion

HAVING read the letter from Dennis Barton of January 30 praising the democratic principles of the House of Lords, I am drawn to feel he is deluding himself.

How can that house be democratic when members are not elected, but appointed by friends from the other house, the House of Commons?

Not only is the House of Lords undemocratic, it houses convicted criminals and it is almost impossible for members to be removed from office by the elected members of the Commons. How many bishops voted is of little consequence compared to the fact they should not be there: the church should have no say in government at all, other than as individual voters. Mr Barton does make one salient point about the printing of more banknotes, quantitative easing, which devalues our currency or increases our debt due to more empty promises given to the bearers of such notes.

I thought we were all deluding ourselves, and whats wrong with that? It's better than facing up to the truth, whatever that is.
