Disappointing day out

10:15am Friday 27th January 2012

ONE of my children offered to take me by train to Birmingham on January 24 and I jumped at the chance.

On arrival, I wanted to see the Bullring, which turned out to be across from the station. First object was to have a nice lunch, but I was soon told the place lacked an English restaurant except for a café on the fourth flour of Debenhams.

I asked if there was a nice eating place nearby and was told if I went right through the centre and outside on the right a new place called Browns was within walking distance.

After lunch and a short shop in the centre, the train was due, so went back to the station and asked for the toilets. Not here, I was told, but through the barriers. Very good, but when I asked if there was a lift to the platform I was told to go back through the barrier where a lift to the platform could be found.

I was disappointed with my day out as I was told Birmingham Station had been modernised and the Bullring was famous.

I found neither to be the case, perhaps I was misinformed.

Dennis Barton, Woodthorpe, York.
