Dental woes show decay in our NHS

YOU can tell a nation’s health by its smile. A British smile reveals mostly unhealthy teeth, which is a good indication of our National Health Service, once the envy of the world.

I have found that a decent National Health dentist in York is as rare as hen’s teeth.

At one surgery I was told that their books were full up and anyway they “don’t take strangers from off the street”.

At another practice, I found it was a mere front for whisking you off into their private hygienist health care.

I complained to the Minister of Health, but he didn’t even bother to reply, which sums up the scant regard our health care is held under this Government.

So I have done the only thing possible and that is to take out a second mortgage and go private.

However, it begs the question of what we are paying our taxes for: certainly not a decent National Health Service.

What has a smile got to do with healthy teeth? I have no teeth but I smile.
Some people I know have a full set but are miserable b**gg**s
Just another idiotic comment

Quite right Phil. Trying to get onto the NHS Dental system is almost impossible. I quite agree the comment of telling a nations health by it's smile too. The thought of Mentos flashing his gums at my offspring fills me with horror.

Well said Phil, although this has been a problem for more than twenty years' when the Thatcher government reduced funding for NHS Dental Care, sending Dentists in their droves into private practice. 13 years' of Labour failed to fix the problem the Conservatives created too.
It is not uncommon for people to travel 25+ miles to find an NHS Dentist. Still, I guess it helps keep the old carbon foot print up!
