No change from Conservative Party

THEY proclaimed to be the only party of change at the General Election, yet last week the Conservative Party leader and Prime Minister gave his clearest commitment yet to reinstate one of the most shameful and barbaric pastimes of this country; to repeal the law on hunting with dogs.

At a time when the economy is shrinking, rising inflation and unemployment ever increasing, the clear priority for the Conservative-led coalition is the killing of defenceless wild creatures.

This should be no surprise. They spoke of change at the election, yet still support the hereditary principle in the House of Lords. They spoke of change, yet scrapped the Building Schools for the Future Fund, Education Maintenance Allowance and the Future Jobs Fund.

They spoke of change, yet take tax credits away from struggling families. They spoke of change, yet continue to isolate Britain on the fringes of Europe by aligning with homophobic and extreme right wing parties.

Allow us to be under no doubt; these are not the policies of change, but are the very values which have defined the Conservative Party and principles in which it was founded upon since 1834.

Dan Sidley, Labour Party candidate for Fishergate, Holgate Road, York.

A good point, well made, Mr Sidley.

I don't agree with most of the points in your letter, but I do agree with the point about hunting with dogs 100%

It is old fashioned cruelty that cannot be justified.

As a borderline conservative voter, this is the issue that will sway my vote away from the conservatives.

If they bring back hunting, I will find another party to vote for

I have no opinion either way on the hunting with dogs issue, but fully understand the point of view. There was a vote and it was banned............le
t it go at that. Do you think Conservative change may be reducing unaffordable spending? As for building schools for the future.........There was so much money wasted by commitee upon commitee to decide what colour to make the staff canteen curtains, it became unaffordable. The problem I see now is one of slash and burn. Not one of the parties have any idea of what to do, so Tories are just cutting the middle/working class off at the knees, not realising that they are the majority and will bite back when time permits. I'm all for reducing the welfare bill, but not at the expense of the most needy. A box of food and a fiver a fortnight for the incurable scrounger is as much as I would give, but a decent living wage for those actually unable to contribute financially to society is no less than they should expect. Oh and get stuck right in to any tax avoidance. If it look wrong...it usually is

Typical Labour hypocrisy. They b1tch and moan about every change regardless as to if it is good or bad, then moan that their is not enough change.
The biggest and best change was getting rid of Gordon Brown. and his tax and waste policies

Hunting with dogs should remain in the past along with bear-baiting and ****-fighting, other barbaric pursuits which were once considered acceptable by the unenlightened and deluded people of the times.

I think Dan's missing the point with this letter. Foxes are vermin, and are not "defenceless wild animals". This is not the same as hunting a stag for instance. It is the "hunting with dogs" which is animal cruelty and needs to be stopped from returning, not the killing of foxes.

and his 12 years of successive growth. Really good change!
