After purchasing a wildlife stealth camera to help us capture video footage of badgers during their nocturnal activities, we would like to ask readers for a bit of help. In March, East Yorkshire Badger Protection Group and Selby Badger Watch are holding a badger awareness day for ecology students. This will include a field trip, photographs and video.
Although badgers do not hibernate during winter months they emerge less frequently, and at the moment we are struggling to capture the footage we would like for this teaching session. If anyone has knowledge of an active badger sett and feels they can help us with this project, it would be greatly appreciated.
Eventually we hope to build a valuable resource of information about this elusive and shy creature which can be utilised by those interested in the welfare of badgers. We would, of course, need the landowner’s permission to access the land and although location of setts is never publicly disclosed, videos we have taken thus far can be seen on our website, selbybadgerwatch.com
Setts in private gardens where we can safely leave our stealth camera for a few nights would be an immense bonus. Anyone able to help can contact us by email at selbybadgerwatch@aol.com In the meantime, may we wish your readers a very happy new year.
