Unreliable local public transport forcing us back to our cars?

By Reader's letter

IN THE Press of September 1, two letters appeared about the unreliable local public transport.

First Group is now withdrawing some early morning and late evening services.

Those affecting Acomb and Holgate district mean we will have no service to get us into town either for an early start for work or to catch a train to get us to work.

The reason given for this is to “improve reliability”. How will the withdrawing of these services improve reliability? It is later in the day that buses run late, if at all.

The people who make these decisions should realise that not all workers work 9am to 5pm, as it would seem they do.

The public so inconvenienced will resort to using taxis or their own cars; so much for cutting back on the use of same.
