Giving young players a chance after Richard Brodie's exit

SO Richard Brodie goes to Crawley. I now fear for our wonderful York City.

We used to have managers who believed in giving young players a chance, such as Billy McCewan and Colin Walker.

Now we have a manager who would sooner (in his own words) bring in a player coming to the end of his career than give the youngsters a chance. So now who is the big transfer going to be? The last three players to come through the youth ranks have gone (Liam Shepherd, Adam Boyes, Andy Mcwilliams), while Billy McCewan’s two signings have now both left (Martin Woolford, Richard Brodie).

I also know a father of one of our under-11/12 team, and when they returned to training only five turned up. The others have gone to other clubs who look after their future, unlike our present management team.

So now I honestly believe we are in for a mid-table finish, even though supporters are always been told by the board and the manager we want to get out of this league as soon as we can. This is not the way to do it.

A very disgruntled season ticket holder.

Andrew Wood, Stuart Road, York.

So Richard Brodie has gone and you want to give youth a chance? Name one youth team forward who could take Brodie's place and play in the York City first team at the present moment.

last year York City FC had the best set of 2nd year youth team players ever and decided to get rid of all of them bar 2 who were all worthy of a contract. I think the comments in the report are spot on, this club is not about developing it's youth team it's about winning a league so no wonder the players get disheartened and move on to other clubs..... Absolutely shocking, especially since the strike force of the current team are let's say firing blanks!!!!! this club needs to start back at the basics with investing in it's youth, cost you less money in the long run and just think how good the club/board will look....
