By Reader's letter
I AM sure I am not alone in wanting to celebrate the service provided by York Theatre Royal.
Many readers will be familiar with the high standards of performance, but I would like to further highlight the theatre’s wonderful contribution to the city.
The exemplary York Theatre Royal Youth Theatre caters to hundreds of young people, providing training in theatre and acting skills, and also opportunities to develop team working, creativity, design, play and responsibility.
The recent production of Coram Boy was a triumph of ambition and achievement.
The theatre works tirelessly to support young people. It encourages youth involvement, supports young and independent theatre companies and stages work by young writers.
It also promotes the extraordinary Takeover initiative where young people effectively run the theatre.
Under the direction of Damien Cruden, the theatre has presented the arts at its liveliest and best, challenging the status quo and inviting audiences to address important questions about what it is to be human.
Finally, I also want to mention the unfailing excellence of the staff. During a recent family emergency medical assistance was immediately on hand with practical action to call an ambulance.
