In support of taxi-based community lifeline

I WAS pleased to read that taxi companies may support their community in providing a lifeline to those who find getting a bus at certain times difficult (July 29).

I hope this idea is successful and many of these wheelchair-friendly mini bus taxis will be using their skills to provide the extra cover when public transport does occasionally fail.

The big question will be the pensioners’ pass: might we have to forgo this concession to have this valuable additional support? I think it would be ideal in Ryedale and East Yorkshire, as some in those areas have no transport at all and can be a long walk to the nearest bus for many, especially in winter and in inclement weather.

Keith, this isn't about taxi companies, this is an idea by one individual who doesn't even own his own licensed vehicle. What he is proposing isn't even legal at the moment, the council would need to rubber stamp it and the rest of the hackney trade would need to agree to it. There isn't a chance in hell that they will I'm afraid. As usual he has sought publicity on a whim which will never happen in a month of Sundays.
