‘I wish lights were off every morning’

Did anyone else notice that there was zero traffic congestion at the Blossom Street and Micklegate Bar crossroads on Wednesday, at 7.45am (City junction lights to stay, The Press, March 18)?

And what was this nice surprise due to – one of the new options being implemented at a considerable cost; a secret bank holiday or my clock being wrong?

No, it was due to the traffic lights not working.

I was amazed to see that everyone, including pedestrians and cyclists, although cautious, managed the crossroads sensibly and there wasn’t a queue of traffic in any direction.

I wish the lights weren’t working every morning.

Should this be an option included in the Blossom Street/Micklegate bar redesign? Just food for thought.
