Parking problems

My husband and I would like to complain to York council about all the buses and cars parked down Knavesmire Road, on both sides.

It is only waiting for an accident to take place, and then something might be done about it. Sometimes you have to wait a long time for oncoming traffic because of the size of the buses.

May I suggest that if they are allowed to park there, why doesn’t the council put in parking meters, which would bring in a substantial amount of money for the council, which always seems to be short of money.

Mr and Mrs Mountain, Jamieson Terrace, York.

• A City of York Council spokesperson said: “The parking along Knavesmire Road tends to be commuters and tour coaches looking for somewhere free to park for the day.

“If restrictions or parking charges are put in place, there is a strong likelihood that the drivers would park in residential streets off Tadcaster Road and in the South Bank area, which would generate more problems for local people.

“Restrictions have been put in place at key locations near the main cycle and pedestrian crossing, and provide good visibility for drivers and those wishing to cross the road.

“If the parking starts to create ongoing problems, from a traffic management perspective, there may be a case to implement a further, limited set of restrictions to ease traffic flow.

“At present there are no plans to take any action, though this could be reviewed if a specific area of concern, such as a junction, is highlighted.”

I suggest that whoever drives the car you are travelling in, retakes there driving test or gets an eye test. You could fit 2 Hummers through the gap down the middle even when coaches are parked on both sides

Already York has a reputation for the highest parking charges in North Yorkshire and very little free parking for durations of more than a few minutes. More parking meters will do the reputation and long term viability of York no good whatsoever.
Lack of adequate parking facilities are just a part of the inadequate traffic management planning York City Council are responsible for. They appear to believe tourists and residents are riding on bicycles or in buses.
This idea of crowding will only get worse as no action is being taken to reduce our population and even more parking meters won't solve that.

Yes let's ban and/or tax something - the simplistic solution to any problem in the UK. There are already excessive double yellow lines in York where none are needed, and there is no need here, just because Mr and Mrs Plateau were delayed on their bus journey or in their Nissan Micra.

CoYC parking charges are graduated so that itbecomes more expensive to park closer the the City centre. That is done to incentivise use of Park & Ride whereparking is free.
Unfortunately private companies like NCP are cocking a snoot buy undercutting hence underrmining this sensible strategy

Did you contact your local councillor? What did s/he have to say about it?

Likewise, I drive down there every day & I have never had a problem getting through unless the numpty coming the other way insists on taking up most of the road.
Ditto for Bishopthorpe Road, Scarcroft Road....

Ever considered getting some better Glasses?
