Well done to local businesses in Bishopthorpe Road

CONGRATULATIONS to the Bishopthorpe Road businesses for their latest promotional idea (United front, The Press, March 4).
This varied collection of local shops and businesses must be quite unusual in York today, and has served the community well for decades – in spite of frequent problems such as traffic restrictions during road works.
The home page of their new website is a great encouragement, seeing just how many types of businesses are within walking distance of the local area, and easy to reach for many others.
With the increasing size of York suburbs, often with few local shops, and in some cases without the sense of identity which older areas used to enjoy, it is good to know that the Bishopthorpe Road community is still thriving as a centre of the community. Long may they continue!
