Lib Dems PR principles

THE Lib Dems, a party of principle, have for many years had proportional representation as their main aim and pledge.

In the case of a hung parliament at the coming election they must surely, unless they are to renege on their promises, form a government with the party that wins the most votes.

Anything else would be seen as opportunism.

Are you saying the big two should play by the same criteria and add their support to the party with the most votes.

Where would the opposition come from? The last thing they want is the Single Transferable Voting System or anything like it. It would cost them and their banker pals far too dearly, and many of them their jobs.

Support for proportional representation took a nose-dive when people saw the sort of nutters that UKIP put into the European Parliament

People are fed up of Labour and Tory governments and looking for something better.

Don't you think we are worth better Pete? They have had it all their own way since world war 2. Is that not enough? All they offer is more of the same. "It's them or us," they chant in unison.

A lot of people don't agree. Some will even vote UKIP.

George. I wasn't disagreeing. But if the alternatives put up the likes of UKIP include Godfrey Bloom then support for PR won't come.
Having said that, my personal experience of 2 labour councillors of the past suggests that a couple of strait-jackets wouldn't go amiss there.
