Teens' bus fare deal

I am writing in response to a letter from Olly Sherwood regarding bus fares (Fares too high, March 6).

I would like to clarify that any 16-year-old (like Olly Sherwood) or 17-year-old, in full-time education, can apply for a 17 Club card, which costs only £5 and allows half-fare travel on all Arriva Yorkshire services in North Yorkshire.

With a 17 Club card the fare between Escrick and York would work out at £1.20 each way, which we feel offers great value.

At Arriva Yorkshire we pride ourselves in providing good-quality, cost-effective travel for our passengers.

Our annual customer survey showed that in 2009 four-out-of-five passengers in North Yorkshire felt satisfied with the value for money their Arriva service provided.

I would urge Olly to phone our 17 Club card administration line on 01924 231300 to request a form.

Nigel Featham, Managing director, Arriva Yorkshire, Wakefield.

Are there posters about this on all Arriva buses? Bad as First bus services are, they do at least promote all their various fares and concessions on board.
