Cost of television licence

Once again there has been an increase in the cost of a television licence, which when added to “pay to view” channels is threatening to make TVs a luxury item for many to have in their homes.

No doubt some will look to the radio as an alternative for entertainment and call it a day.

However, years ago, when television was only available to a few who could afford it, many used to invite friends round who did not have such an item.

If there was something special to watch people would go round to their neighbour’s, and both together would be viewing something in good company.

I wonder whether we will revert to doing this, calling in on a neighbour to watch their television or even helping with the cost of the licence if a regular visitor?

Could black-and-white televisions be reintroduced with this new digital technology for those who feel the licence fee for them is more acceptable? What is wrong with black-and-white anyway used as an alternative for viewing if it’s cheaper? Something may be better than nothing at all.
