I WOULD like to say a big thank-you to everyone at York Hospital for the outstanding care I was given while a patient.
In the early hours of February 21, I was rushed into hospital with excruciating stomach pains.
The ambulance staff were superb and, although they’d had a fraught Saturday night, they showed kindness and compassions.
Admitted into A&E, the same high standard of care was shown to me.
I was then taken to Ward 14 and after my operation to Ward 16, under the care of Mr Giles and his dedicated team of staff.
The level of care I was given was second to none. Nurses sat and consoled me at my worst while still attending to everyone else, were cheerful with us all, yet knew when to leave you if you needed quiet.
I watched these nurses; they don’t just work, they toil, bed making, emptying bed pans, washing us when needed and always with dignity.
There were also all the cleaners, canteen staff, porters, people collecting our blood samples, people ferrying us for scans and x-rays and doing our scans.
Then the operation – and I feel I would like to bring to attention the so often unsung heroes of hospital, the anaesthetists, who, without these good people and their skill, an operation would be unthinkable.
Words can never be enough to thank Mr Giles and his team, who operated and removed the source of my problem.
Then recovery on Ward 16 where, in safe hands, I was observed, encouraged and reassured when needed, even though they were extremely busy throughout.
I feel I experienced true dedication from everyone concerned.
