David Craven (Letters, June 4) states that disturbing hedges, shrubs and trees between March and August is in breach of the Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1981.
Why then do the council serve notice on private householders who allow their hedges to grow over footpaths and obstruct people who wish to pass by?
Also what about country lanes that are overgrown and prevent vehicles from passing without being scratched?
Access to all sites and public right of way has to be maintained whatever the season.
