MY husband and I and some very good friends of ours turned up to see the unveiling of the plaque to the late great entertainer Sir Ken Dodd by the very funny Tim Vine at the Grand Opera House in York on Saturday, May 26.

However, we were very disappointed to be politely turned away by the staff at the Grand Opera House who advised it was a “private unveiling only” and members of the public were not permitted to attend.

We were very sad and disappointed at being turned away as the article in The Press had not stated it was a private unveiling and so we as great and loyal fans had turned up to witness this great moment.

However, we fully support this wonderful tribute that the Grand Opera House has made to the great Sir Ken Dodd, who was an inspirational, hilarious and very warm human being who we were very fortunate to have met.

It is a fantastic tribute to such a great entertainer and legend and wonderful for his lovely widow Lady Anne Dodd and his long-time friend and scriptwriter Barry Reeves and, of course, for all of his many fans.

We very much look forward to viewing this plaque, the stalls bar which has also been named after him and all his memorabilia adorning the walls when we next visit the Grand Opera House.
