How lucky are we to be here at this stage of television evolution so that we could witness the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan - or now more formally, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex - in such exquisite quality.

I was inspired when, as a lad, I watched the coronation of the Queen in 1953 on a fuzzy nine-inch picture in black and white and 405 lines and was captivated. Now we have stunning 70 inch colour screens in HD and, for some last Saturday, in 4K UHD.

I pay tribute to the highly talented television production team who made this possible for us to enjoy in the comfort of our armchairs - and particularly the camera team who brought us every angle in telling the story.

It was exquisite television at its very best for this country and the other two billion around the world who could also share the spectacle.

How disappointing that we are still having to watch our regional television by the BBC and ITV in bog standard definition?

It’s not good enough and time the Northern Powerhouse reflected this title - no matter the cost - instead of being left in the backwaters of television technology.
