Having read The Press (‘Absurd’ secrecy row over council report, April 13) I must congratulate Cllr Derbyshire and the Audit and Governance Committee on demanding that the committee be shown the contentious report on a meeting that took place in February 2017. My only concern is that it apparently won’t be made public!

Just how open and transparent is this council ? Cllr Steward calls it “absurd” but it is only as absurd as the long-standing saga of the community stadium (for which millions of pounds have been borrowed in our name as residents and we won’t have it paid back for many years). It is also truly absurd that one man can manage the stadium! So much for joint use by two sports clubs. All this and again no public papers to show the true facts.

Also, on the same day, we read of the Parliament Street fountain being demolished with some temporary seating put in its place until a permanent solution can be agreed, a case of a sticking plaster to mend a broken leg.

It is Parliament Street that needs a full repair and refurbishment. Someone asked the other week in these columns ‘Did the council have a plan B for the stadium?’. Well this is proof that they seem to never have a plan B for anything.

King’s Square best site for bandstand

Mary Broadhead’s letter about the Parliament Street fountain (Letters, April 17) encapsulates what the majority of York readers feel. The sooner it is done the better, ready for this summer’s visitors. Why is it taking so long to be developed? King’s Square is a more suitable place for a bandstand.
