WE WERE greatly saddened by the death of our “brother” Marcus Wade recently.
He worked at the old York Carriageworks all his working life and in the 80s, when the works were privatised, Marcus formed a group fighting against the injustice privatisation cost ex workers at the ‘Sheds’. He was our Chairman who fought both illness and injustice in equal measure. Right until last month, where we met Rachael Maskell, he still fought to have our rightful rail passes cruelly robbed from us restored.
Those who knew him well would be aware Marcus was not afraid to say what he thought, no matter who he might offend or please, and didn’t suffer fools gladly.
He will be severely missed by many of his old pals and our condolences go out to his family at this tragic time.
Derek McLeod, Paul Cooper and Bill Moore,
Lochrin Place, York
PS: We are still fighting, Marcus...
