WHAT many people do not seem to realise is that there will be no further financial support from the EU for UK projects following Brexit.
A couple of local examples reported in The Press in the last two or three weeks, out of the thousands of grants made nationally over the last few years, show how important this support is to the development of individual UK projects, whether economic, social, cultural or environmental.
More than £6.5 million secured to support business growth and enterprise on the Yorkshire coast from the European Social Fund and the European Regional Development Fund.
A York-based biomass supplier is expanding on the back of a £200,000 support package linked to the European Regional Development Fund.
It is a fair bet that the current Government, obsessed with deficit reduction, will discontinue any support for such schemes, making sure that the alleged savings from the EU withdrawal will disappear into the depths of the Treasury machine, never to be seen again.
What a shambles.
