SEEING the black and white photos in The Press of Malton cattle market brought back happy memories (The Press, October 9).

As a child, we lived off Heslington Road and the cattle market was in Kent Street, with the abattoir conveniently across the road.

I loved being taken to see the animals and walking around the pens, looking at the cows, sheep and pigs.

I distinctly remember my dad telling me that they got streaky bacon by feeding the pigs one day and starving them the next.

Do they still do that I wonder?
