I ATTENDED the anti-fracking protest last Wednesday and it was great to see Jackie Brookes, the indomitable 77-year-old local serving teas and coffees at the roadside to all, after having been moved on by police the previous day.

Like all the local villagers around Kirby Misperton, she is resolutely opposed to the industrialisation and pollution that fracking entails.

It will certainly be a hammer blow to the tourist industry.

The Tories have financial links to the oil and gas industry so the locals don’t matter.

The police at the site are doing their job in a fair way and I have no issue with that, however in a situation like this arrests are inevitable.

However, once fracking begins in York city boundaries there will be such public antagonism the police would have a truly impossible job.

Judging by Tory cuts to the police, the welfare of the force is also of no consequence to them.

There is big trouble on the horizon and I am still furious that Julian Sturdy, my MP, voted in favour of fracking in North Yorkshire and thus got us into this mess.

Certainly time for a change of leadership.
