AS a pedestrian who has walked along Blossom Street and Micklegate for almost 25 years, I read with interest the article on the suggestions from Professor May (The Press, October 13).
He suggests that traffic should be encouraged to use Nunnery Lane and Blossom Street instead of Bishopthorpe Road and Scarcroft Road.
He then suggests that traffic should not be allowed to exit Micklegate, except for cyclists.
So cars will be forced to use Rougier Street and Queen Street/Station Road to get to Blossom Street.
How will these changes help ease traffic at the junction of Micklegate and Nunnery Lane? Won’t there be more traffic?
Presumably cyclists will still need the lights to change to enable them to exit Micklegate? Not to mention making the traffic passing the station even worse.
Also, with regard to his comments about pedestrians and Station Rise.
Does anyone, other than buses, use the part of Leeman Road he suggests using to avoid turning into Station Rise?
Forcing traffic to go round the loop only makes a busy junction worse.
Why not persuade pedestrians to cross Station Road at the crossing by the hotel?
The footpath on the other side of the road is much wider and more pleasant.
That way they can get a lovely view of the council’s office.
