REGARDING Helen Mead’s article “Putting the freeze on moth plague” (The Press, September 28), worry not Helen, you are not alone in trying to combat tineola bisselliella. It’s done for a few of my articles of clothing from pullovers to t-shirts to underpants over the years, though I’ve never seen the little blighter, only its handiwork.
What are its teeth made of? A formidable little muncher. Will we ever beat it?
I did mention my moth problem to my brother one day. His sage-like reply was “do you leave your windows open in summer?”
My reply was “yes” and he said “there you go”.
I think he was saying that moths have wings and he is right. Nail down the windows and tape round the doors, Helen. Keep them shut in summer and you might just begin to win the fight with tineola bisselliella.
Best of luck, Helen, though I must admit clothes in the freezer is a new one on me.
