WE have recently returned from a holiday in Ibiza and when booking into our hotel had to pay a tourist tax of 15.40 euros (£13.69) for us both.

Years ago when visiting Turkey we had to pay £10 each when landing at the airport.

I think it would be a good idea to introduce a tourist tax in this country.

The money could be paid to the local council to be spent on the residents of the town concerned - not the tourists.

In York’s case the money could be used to fund the building of a bus station and it would benefit both residents and tourists alike.
