Why can’t they be deported now?

WHEN one reads the article in The Press (Four ran £1m cannabis farm, September 16) about four illegal immigrants who have been sentenced to various terms in prison for running an illegal cannabis farm and who, after serving their sentences, will be deported you have to wonder why we don’t deport them immediately instead of the British taxpayer having to pay for their board and lodgings during time served.

No doubt whilst they are in prison they will make appeals based on their human rights to stay in the UK, and they will be granted legal aid to fight their cases at the expense to the British taxpayer. When one reads of cases like this it strengthens the argument for coming out of the EU and abiding by our own rules set by our elected government.

Piccadilly looks more like docks

WHAT a sight Piccadilly is. As you walk into town from Fishergate, on the left you have the hotel near the bridge which is fine, then it starts to go downhill. You have the eyesore empty office block Ryedale House then a row of empty shops up to the Tesco Local shop, the other side is not so bad with the residential apartments but now we have a small piece of Southampton docks transplanted on the site of the old Reynard garage.

I understand the ship containers are going to look really good when finished, I hope so. I wonder when that road will be redeveloped and if I am around to see it. I don’t think I will hold my breath.

Roses are red but tub’s more violets

IN AN old TV advert Norman Vaughan tells us that ‘Cadbury’s Roses grow on you’.

Last year’s tub of Christmas chocolates weighed in at 729g net.

This year’s tub is only 660g net.

Norman was wrong and maybe Cadbury’s should change the name to Violets to reflect the fact that they are shrinking.
