I DON’T want to sound like a long playing gramophone record, but when Christian Vassie thinks we should pay our debts before leaving the EU, does he mean like Greece chooses not to (Letters, September 5)?

Why does he think people voted for Brexit?

Some of these pensions in the EU are unsustainable.

In the public sector in Greece some jobs were paid three times the salaries of private sector workers.

They were allowed to retire at 50 on a 95 per cent pension of their final year’s salary.

The underground in Athens was free travel with an honesty box at the end of your journey. As was the case in most countries, few chose to pay.

The bill for all this was picked up by the European taxpayer, of which GB is a big contributor.

The original concept of the EEC (EU) was a good idea.

It brought peace and economic prosperity to the continent.

The French have fired cannonballs at us and the Germans rockets before now but it is very unlikely they would do that now.

Some of the EU laws are to say the least bizarre.

Not being able to deport criminals because they are entitled to a family life or it may offend their human rights defies common sense.

Only time will tell, but I think in a few years’ time history will prove it was a good vote.
