READING previous letters from your readers regarding the state of our once beautiful city of York, I have to agree with their comments.

The decline in the city is so sad.

As one shop closes, permission is granted for yet another restaurant to open.

Please, City of York Council, stop granting this. We do not need any more restaurants or cafes.

The other concern is the state of our streets with rubbish littering them and filthy shop entrance ways, where once was a lovely, clean building.

The increase of drunk people, let alone the increasing homeless people hanging out in shop entrances, is very concerning and needs dealing with.

What has happened to our lovely clean, historical city which we were very proud to say we lived in?

Now, it is apparent many residents do not go into York because there is no longer anything to go in for as we have pretty much everything and more out of town.

We need our old quaint shops back which made York appealing.

Sadly shop owners are having to exit the city due to ever-increasing rates, making it unsustainable for them to continue.

Come on Make It York, get our city together again and return the old York to residents and visitors alike.
