READERS might be interested to know of a charity which provides holidays and short breaks for adults and children with disabilities in two unique and specialist vehicles which are part-coach, part-ambulance and known as Jumbulances.
They feature wide platform lifts, capacity for clamped wheelchairs and five trolley beds, spacious washroom, emergency medical equipment, kitchen area and more.
They are staffed by volunteer doctors, nurses, carers and helpers, who make travel possible on holidays in the UK and Europe, plus specially arranged day trips.
The Jumbulance Trust is well-known and well used in the south off England, but is hardly recognised in North Yorkshire, although there is a regular small group of users from the York area.
Financial assistance might be available to VIPs who wish to travel and help is given to apply for grants.
I visited Nairn in Scotland with my husband for his 80th birthday and it couldn’t have been a better week.
There is a website giving more information - www.jumbulance.org.uk - and the group leader contact is Chris Chisholm, who can be emailed at cookchrisr@aol.com
