THE common sense written in these columns about all electric cars by the year 2040 does not surprise me.

For Volvo to stop producing conventional cars and go all electric is certainly a very bold move for a company to make.

As for the Government saying they are going to ban all petrol and diesel cars by 2040, I have my doubts as to that happening.

For electric cars to be practical is, I think, a long way off.

At present it takes about three or four minutes to fill the tank of an average size car at a filling station.

How long will it take to recharge a flat powered electric car? One hour?

It wouldn’t be the first time governments have made wild statements which never come to fruition.

When North Sea gas was discovered we were led to believe has would be free. I thought at the time, yes the gas will be free but the piping of it won’t be.

Electric vehicles have been around for a long time. They were invented in the mid 20th century.

Milk and bakery delivery vans were very popular in the 1940s and 1950s.

Tesla has taken them a long way, but I think they have still got a long way to go before there is enough electricity and a surge of electric to quickly charge a flat battery.
