AS we approach the silly season for news reports, someone is surely pulling our leg that the Police and Crime Commissioner wants to run the fire service as well as the police (The Press, July 18).

Why the Government feels the need to change everything that is running perfectly well under a system where the Fire Authority is represented by both the county council and York as a unitary authority, who could easily combine the use of buildings for police, fire and ambulance probably better than our Julia.

With her sales pitch, she claims more police on patrol under her control of the police.

Well let me tell her the last time I saw a police officer or PSO passing through this area was back before Christmas.

Had I my time over again I would probably be a career criminal as the odds of meeting the thin blue line must be better than the national lottery at 74 million to one.
