I THINK there is some credibility in D Mcternan’s letter “Roundabouts are a waste of money” (The Press, July 14).

I think if they were to dual carriageway the northern section of the ring road all that would achieve is making it a bigger car park than it already is.

There is not enough distance to dual carriageway the outlet roads at Haxby/New Earswick and Boroughbridge/Harrogate exits.

There is no point bringing two lanes of traffic into a bottleneck single carriageway exit road.

This is proven at the “new” complex at Hopgrove where traffic from the A64 and ring road converge on Hopgrove and then they are all forced into single file.

It takes some distance for traffic to work its way out of the jam.

If there was a good slip road into Haxby from the Tesco roundabout end, it would certainly help that queue.
