I CAN’T believe that at this stage of discussions about the A1237 ring road that City of York Council are advocating squandering a fortune on yet more roundabouts.

Although a full dual carriageway bypass is what is needed, the powers that be seem to be obsessed with the idea of roundabouts, which are the major cause of hold-ups at present.

If we can’t get everything we need, at least spend extra to have flyovers, but please get a reality check regarding roundabouts which haven’t worked in the past and even more definitely will not work in the future.

It all comes down to money.

Last year the Government bragging that they had spent a record £6.8 billion on new roads and maintenance.

That’s very big of them considering that revenue from the motorist exceeded £60 billion.
