WITH reference to Mark Gladwin’s letter (The Press, May 23) castigating Bob Waite for stating that Rachael Maskell was “parachuted in” as a candidate for York Central constituency, Mr Waite is surely correct.
As I recall Ms Maskell was imposed on the electorate via an all-female shortlist of five in pursuance of the Labour Party’s obsession with quotas. Democracy in action indeed.
If she is re-elected, I hope Mr Gladwin’s faith in her ability is justified.
It is difficult to bring to mind anything of significance achieved for the constituents of York Central by the previous incumbent, but not to worry, he got his knighthood.
