CONSERVATIVE councillor Chris Steward’s letter baffles me (The Press, May 6).

He boasts that in the Conservative candidate for York Central “we have someone whose family are York through and through”.

Forgive me, but I recall when challenged about the York Outer MP not living in York and having been a Harrogate councillor, Mr Steward’s party dismissed this as not relevant.

Mr Steward also claims that “Julian Sturdy’s record in York Outer has been excellent” but does not back this up with any hard examples.

Let’s not forget that Mr Sturdy voted for Brexit when most of his constituency did not and has failed to deliver his promised dualling of the northern ring road.

He has also failed to achieve any serious position in Government.

I really struggle to understand how that is “excellent”.
