JANET LOOKER and Labour still don’t get it (Letters, May 16). With the country’s finances still unsettled and families thinking hard about what they spend, Labour still insists that government, whether national or local, be all things to all people, and asks residents to pay for this privilege under the misleading heading of public services.

The Conservative-led administration took power in York because after only four years of Labour’s Fairness Commissions and Social Justice, residents wanted straightforward well-run council services without all of the inept attempts at social engineering which the Labour Party, at all levels, just cannot resist.

Labour call protests and virtue signalling working in the interests of York residents; Conservatives call this a distraction. Chris Steward is right - during this election Conservatives in York have strong, confident candidates who have forward thinking ideas and support their party’s leader.

Labour have spent their campaign complaining about the Tories. Perhaps Janet Looker has difficulty remembering what it is like to actually agree with and support their national party on most issues, which makes the need to constantly “challenge” them redundant.

We feel her pain regarding Mr Corbyn, but complaining that the Conservatives are united and positive will not assist her cause.
