QUITE clearly, like me, J C Potter (Letters, May 22) lived through the chaos of the so-called winter of discontent and all the problems that the powerful unions thrust upon the long suffering public during the 1978/79 winter.

In everything that Labour promises to do in the unlikely event of Jeremy Corbyn residing in 10 Downing Street, is his offer of seriously giving back more power to the unions and thus reintroducing the spectre of “the shackles of Socialism” being thrust upon our great nation. This above all else should make every citizen of this land fearful of a Labour victory in the forthcoming General Election.

All other Labour promises pale into insignificance alongside the re-introduction overwhelming union power.
