LABOUR’S William Owen says “Labour don’t need a vote swap deal” (Letters, May 13), yet we now know it could still be a close fight between Labour and Conservative candidates in York Central, since Ukip are not standing, after gaining 10 per cent of the vote in 2015.
Fortunately for Labour, the Green Party here in York have made a rather selfless decision to stand down in York Central, despite Labour being unwilling to acknowledge this action (though we have had much thanks from members and supporters).
The whole process of reaching this decision highlighted to me the real difference between the Green Party and Labour.
While Labour nationally expelled members for advocating a progressive alliance, the Greens have a party willing to act in the interests of the greater good through actively trying to get round the table with others.
A party looking to grow their future, not clinging to a past primacy.
In York Outer, I am ready and excited to represent the Green voice - voting Green here is not a wasted vote, but a chance to show your support for a different, better way of doing politics.
Bethan Vincent, Green Party general election candidate for York Outer
