BETHAN VINCENT will be aware that my comments (Letters, May 13) were not intended to detract in any way from the decision made by the Green’s Andy D’Agorne to stand down in York Central.

Even with such help, this will be a tough fight for Labour but our canvassing tells us that our manifesto messages are getting the positive attention of voters locally and nationally.

We will win York Central with our great policies and a proven, superb candidate in Rachael Maskell who has earned the trust of York residents.

My original letter concerned York Outer. There is an erroneous belief that somehow support for Lib Dems will bounce back and they will become the official challengers to May’s man in York Outer.

Several Facebook sites and some posters (around the University of York campus) offer vote-swap advice claiming that to stop the Tory in York Outer one should vote Lib Dem.

Well, we now know that the Lib Dems are bouncing in the wrong direction and that a vote for them is a wasted vote. The truth is simple. If you want to stop the Tory – vote for Labour’s Luke Charters-Reid in York Outer.
