THE lack of cleaners at York Hospital runs the risk of very serious consequences (The Press, April 20).

The Press reports that a hospital vacancy bulletin shows that the hospital is seeking to fill 950 hours a week.

That equates to around 24 cleaners that York Hospital is short of.

Is it any wonder that bin bags have been seen piled up and bodily fluids have been seen left on the floor?

Surely the management must realise that this lack of hygiene cannot be accepted in what is supposed to be a clean environment of a hospital.

If this situation is not sorted out urgently this could have a health impact on patients in the fact that they could become seriously ill via cross contamination.

This would undermine the hard work that not only cleaners but doctors and nurses and all the other hard working staff at the hospital carry out every day and under great pressure.

The senior management must get this shortage of cleaners sorted out immediately.
