WHILE local politicians are likely to be distracted by the General Election in the next few weeks, work on completing our Local Plan must urgently press ahead.
Peter Dew (Letters, April 20) is misleading to suggest that the latest version of the plan will be any less the victim of growing congestion than Labour’s version.
If anything reducing the size and changing the location of the new settlement to the south of York will make it less viable to consider cost-effective travel alternatives to the private car.
As for Labour’s Cllr David Levene (The Press, April 18) criticising the latest delay to allow for the barracks sites being considered for housing, why did Labour vote for the delay at Local Plan Working Group, with my vote the only one against?
All the time this delay continues, developers are working up and bringing forward plans justified purely on the identified need for more housing, regardless of other implications such as drainage, traffic and vital green open space such as at Windmill Lane.
