YET another election is upon us and as always the electorate will be divided into two camps.

Those who will vote for the party they always vote for without thinking and those who will think about the issues and vote accordingly, regardless of who they voted for last time.

I suspect the outcome of this election could spring a surprise.

Looking exclusively at those who will think about the issues I suspect many people will see Brexit as the deciding factor in claiming their vote.

On the one hand those who favour Brexit can vote Conservative, Labour or Ukip, all of which support Brexit, even though some individual MPs may not agree with it personally.

On the other hand those who support remain can only vote Liberal Democrat.

Last year’s EU referendum had one of the largest turnouts ever seen and many people who don’t usually bother to vote came out to vote Brexit.

Assuming many of these Brexiteers don’t bother to vote at this year’s election and the Brexit vote is split three ways as above then the Liberal Democrats could yet be the surprise party.

I can’t see them winning an outright majority but I won’t be surprised if they emerge as the official opposition with Theresa May gaining a much smaller majority than current opinion polls suggest.
