SO May runs into June.

I agree with Rachael Maskell, MP for York Central, who describes the decision to call an early General Election as being “reckless”.

It goes against the promise that Cameron and Clegg made in 2010 and they then pushed through the House of Commons for fixed term Parliaments of five years.

This was done, so they said at the time, to prevent political parties taking advantage of prevailing circumstances to call an election to any political party’s benefit.

Theresa May seems to have used political benefit for exactly that reason by saying that she “wants to have her own mandate” that will make her bargaining position stronger in the negotiations over Brexit.

Theresa May has said publicly on numerous occasions since being appointed as Prime Minister that there would not be a General Election before 2020.

She forgets to inform the electorate that giving her a larger majority in the Commons would mean basically giving her a blank cheque on Brexit negotiations.

It could backfire on her of course due to the fact that quite a lot of the austerity cuts made by the Tories and the Tory/Lib Dems when they were in coalition, are just about beginning to really kick in and hit people in the pockets.

I urge the electorate to really think about all the issues at stake and to use their vote wisely on June 8.
