THANKFULLY my problem on recycling rubbish (The Press, April 13) has been resolved and I accept the council’s assurance that this will not happen again.

However, there is another side to this that no one has picked up on.

I moved to York in 1994 from London and was immediately impressed with the superb services received from CYC.

That is why, on retirement, I decided to become a councillor and walk in the footsteps of my mentor, Jack Archer.

Jack was not a paid councillor but a friend of everyone in Holgate whom he served 24/7.

I attempted to follow in his footsteps, with some degree of success.

However, as the years have passed, the level of service CYC has attempted to provide for its residents has fallen, despite all its employees’ dedication and ever-increasing workloads.

That said, this is the first complaint I have ever made about our council and it has now been successfully resolved.

But we now need to ask ourselves and central government, just how long can our public employees continue to deliver a high standard of service with ever-decreasing staffing levels, severe pay cuts and ever-decreasing finances?
