FOR those planning a holiday this year I’d like to recommend Gibraltar.
No passport needed, no rip-off currency exchange, English speaking people and looking south to the African coastline you can observe the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, which inspires a real sense of hypocrisy.
Meanwhile, the EU has shot itself in the foot – once again.
Were I one of the EU negotiators I’d have attempted to sow division by courting and charming the various nationalists, pro-EU party leaders, even save up a few million euros to buy a Tony Blair speech.
Instead they foolishly decided to fire a written warning shot over the rock of Gibraltar. I feel grateful to them, as even the SNP would not dare deny that the inhabitants are British citizens.
Nothing stiffens the sinews of a people quite like a bit of foreign sabre rattling; so thank you for giving the British a common cause to bond around.
I for one proudly count them as fellow British citizens, regardless of their overwhelming vote to remain.
They accepted the result and make no attempt to politically damage the UK off the back of it; a fine example for us all to keep calm and carry on.
