OH dear, I did touch a nerve with D Nicholson by putting Mrs/Ms in my answering letter to hers (Letters, March 25).

D Nicholson fired back by emphasising my “status” with her Mr/Master Philip (just the one ‘l’) Roe/P Roe esq.

Actually I still stand by my description of EU countries being engulfed by thousands of immigrants. Whether those thousands are from the Middle East or Eastern European is irrelevant.

Engulfing is what is happening and, now the weather is improving in the Med, the numbers of Middle Eastern migrants will massively increase.

D Nicholson says, now Britain is quitting the EU (yes) foreign-born citizens here have now to decide what they will have to do. Take out British citizenship or worry about their future if they keep their “as born” status.

Those EU citizens didn’t come here for altruistic reasons. They came to better themselves by having better working conditions and wages, so taking out citizenship is the obvious step.

Having been a marine engineer, I visited many of the countries these people come from and, having seen the conditions many have to live under, fully understand why they want to come to Europe.
