WHEN the railway advert comes on the TV saying the country runs on rail my husband just laughs.

He started on the railway in the 1950s when nearly all the goods went by rail, from coal and other heavy loads to animals, parcels big and small, the hangman’s rope and weights, coffins plus lots of other goods.

When we see the roads empty of lorries, which I think will never happen, maybe then part of the country will run on rail.
